I received a text or e-mail about a fine. Is it legitimate?

It is possible that scammers are trying to impersonate the courts. Here are some other red flags to watch for:

  • The message makes threats of arrest or license suspension unless you pay immediately.

  • The message links to an unknown site. When in doubt, don't click on suspicious links.

  • The message requests for payment in gift cards, Venmo, or similar apps.

If you're unsure whether a message is legitimate, contact the court where your case is filed.

If you don’t have the court’s phone number, refer to the Magisterial District Court or Common Pleas Court phone listing. Clicking either of these links opens a new webpage.
